Precious Little Sleep: A Parent’s Guide to Baby Sleep Temperatures & More
Precious Little Sleep: A Parent’s Guide to Baby Sleep Temperatures & More Welcome, fellow parents! Let’s talk about something we…
If there’s one word that can make a whole evening wobble, it’s bedtime. One night it’s stories and sleepy cuddles, the next it’s a full negotiation with a very small union rep who has suddenly decided sleep is optional.
We’ve written before about how much we lean on printables in this house, and bedtime is where that habit actually started. Somewhere between the third glass of water and the fourth “one more story”, we realised the problem wasn’t really the routine – it was that nobody could see the routine.
Toddlers are brilliant at pushing back on instructions, but they’re surprisingly loyal to rituals. When the steps live on a bit of paper on the wall – bath, PJs, teeth, story, cuddles, sleep – the routine stops being something mum and dad are imposing and starts being the way bedtime just goes.
It takes the argument out of it. You’re not the baddie saying it’s teeth time. The chart says it’s teeth time, and little ones love being the one to check off the next step.
A few things we’ve learned along the way, shared parent-to-parent rather than from any pedestal:
However you run your evenings, the version that works will be the one that fits your family – not the perfect one from someone else’s Instagram. Start with the steps you already do, put them somewhere everyone can see, and give it a couple of weeks before you judge it.
And if you’d like a head start, the printable Bedtime Routine Chart in our shop is the exact one on our own wall – you can personalise it with your little one’s name before you download it.
New guides, printables and the occasional small triumph - roughly once a fortnight.
